Always wanted to try an instrument, or explore sound in a group? Now’s your chance!
We have a bank of instruments which are available to try for free in one of our sessions:
• Try a stringed instrument on the first Tuesday of the month at a Silver Strings Open Session – book using our contact form.
• Are you a carer, or do you live with dementia? Come to one of our Monday or Friday sessions.
• Click here to see our calendar for more details about all our sessions.
We also offer short courses and one-off workshops, sometimes with visiting musicians, or for beginners playing strings for the first time. Contact us for more details.
What Is A Session Like?
Each of our projects is different, but common to all is a warm welcome on arrival from participants, facilitators, and volunteers. In general we start by stretching together, then the music-making starts at a gentle pace – people can join in however they like, whether that’s playing an instrument straightaway or just tapping their feet to the music. We love requests and spontaneously-sung musical offerings!
In each session there is time to socialise, and share ideas and stories. All our groups are very welcoming to newcomers and seasoned participants alike.
The enthusiasm and eagerness of everyone in the group really improved my confidence.
-Ollie, sessional volunteer
