Strings For All

Starting as a total beginner, you have brought me on to the point where I can play. That is a total plus. Without the initial introduction and then your encouragement it would never have happened. Joining the project has changed my life, now making music is part of my everyday and I’m loving it!

We offer a range of sessions for adult string players: whether you’ve been playing for a while, haven’t played for many years, or never played before, there’s an Open Strings Music workshop for you!
We specialise in offering a supportive and energising environment for people of all abilities to explore string playing together, from creating our own music, active listening, playing by ear, and sometimes reading music.
The emphasis is on playing together in the here and now.

Spring 2018

Strings At Twilight

Strings at Twilight is a mixed-ability group for any adult who wants to play a cello, violin or viola, regardless of experience. Modelled on our successful weekly strings project, Silver Strings, this class is suitable for complete beginners and more experienced players alike – we can even provide instruments for new players on request.

Strings at Twilight is an evening class where we explore soundmaking and familiar music, string-playing fundamentals, and musical building blocks in a fun and supportive atmosphere.

Participants are encouraged to bring in their own ideas and suggestions for the group to try, within the structured weekly format.

Participants say that our sessions are ‘very inspiring and informative’, that ‘I’ve been looking for workshops like this for years!’ and ‘I feel a sense of achievement when I find I’m thinking about something in a new way’.
